The High Country

I caught another case of Wanderlust when an old episode of Poh’s Kitchen was on yesterday. She was in (and around) Bright, a gateway town to the Victorian Alps. What peaked my interested was the converted tobacco kiln in which she cooked in front of located in Porepunkah.

The Kiln House is located about 3 hours out of Melbourne and looks to me like the greatest weekend escape location if ever there was. There are 3 different establishments that can be booked ranging in size. There are wineries, cafes, and the Bright Brewery all within short distances.

Who wouldn’t want to have that view to wake up to every day? I’d want to visit this location in Winter, where you can curl up under a doona watching the sky unfold outside with someone warm beside you. Laze about for hours drinking all of the wine and eating ALL OF THE CHEESES!

I love the architectural features of these buildings and the way the interiors are put together. The Cavedon Kilnhouse was designed by Sally Draper Architects incorporating a simple palette of new constructive materials against the rich texture of the existing structures.

I could unwind, relax, forget about the World and really find a moment of peace. I’ve never had a holiday where I’ve just stopped. Stopped for a moment and let the World just unfold around me. Sometimes when you are on the go all of the time you do need to stop. Physically take yourself away for a moment and be calm. This seems like an ideal place to do that in!

Does the lady like Whiskey?

So I’m just waiting on some pretty bout photos to be uploaded before I do a recap of The Blocker Strikes Back that I played in over the weekend (PS: we totally WON! and it was FREAKIN’ AWESOME!!)… but, by the by… I’m getting coached by Jackie Daniels this coming weekend!!

And by Jackie Daniels, I mean, Windy City Rollers All Star team Captain. Previously of Grand Raggidy Roller Girls and she was also a skater in a little movie called ‘Whip It’ (you *may* of heard of it, yeah? ;)) Jackie is in the country as one of the coaches attending Roller Con Downunder to be held in Caloundra, QLD on NOV 30 – DEC 2nd, 2012.

My super Awesome league (notably Bliss Star who puts a bucket load of effort in to organising things like this for us!) is helping bring Jackie down to run a 2 day bootcamp this weekend. Saturday she will be looking after our 2 senior levels of skaters and on the Sunday she will be focusing on our 2 lower levels. She is flying down with another Roller Con coach, Demanda Riot of B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls (OMG!) and we’ll be taking them both to the VRDL Grand Final which is on the Saturday night.

What with the RDX on the Friday night, a full day bootcamp with Jackie on the Saturday then the double header Grand Final Saturday night… I may need a roller derby detox after this next weekend…

… then again… probably not! 🙂

Ermahgerd – Berner Thernders!!

A week from today I will be watching some of the best roller derby skaters In. The. World take to the banked track in what I will deem THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH!!

You can still GET TICKETS!

I was at the hair salon this week, and like an excited 5 year old at Christmas I was explaining to my bemused hairdresser what this event means to me! I never thought I’d EVER get to watch any of these skaters live in action. But, golly gosh, I get the chance to now! High five to that RDX!

LA Derby Dolls vs Gotham!? OH. MY. GOD! Seriously!? SERIOUSLY!!?? … Bonnie Thunders AND Suzy Hotrod!? C’mon!! I do declare that that will excite the pants of most derby girls! (True Story!). Urgh! It’s too much! I’m getting WAY too excited…

Just watch this interview with Bonnie at Champs this year… she talks about her “team” and the aims “we” have… there is never any “I”, or personal agenda… and that’s fucking teamwork!

ps: did you know there’s an ermahgerd translator??
